Peter Lynch is a legendary American investor, during his 13 years as manager at Fidelity Magellan he averaged a 29.2% annual return.
From 1977 to 1990, Lynch’s fund consistently more than doubled the S&P 500 making it the best-performing mutual fund in the world.
When Lynch first became manager, the fund had only $20 million in assets under management. By the time he retired 13 years later, it had grown to $14 billion.
Lynch’s approach to the simplicity of successful investing can be summarised by this quote; ‘Never invest in any idea you can’t illustrate with a crayon’.
This clip is from a 1994 National Press Club meeting where Lynch gave a short keynote address and took questions. If you’d like to watch other parts of that speech checkout our playlist.
