Alexander 'Alick' Donaldson (1883 - 1970) was born in Brora, Sutherland, a small village on the far north east coast of Scotland. After army service in the First World War we believe his war experiences drove him to lead a very humble lifestyle. He lived for many years under a rock overhang in a very isolated spot a few miles south of Brora. This short film gives an idea how remote was his 'home'. Included is a short interview with Alick's friend, the late George MacBeath describing the location.
Thanks go to Dr. Nick Lindsay of the Brora Heritage Centre who helped us to identify the exact site and provided the rare interview.
