West Star Aviation – Chattanooga’s interior woodworking department has integrated a Veneer Finish Roll Coater/ UV Curing Machine into their interior production processes. West Star, long-known for world-class interiors and woodwork, says the machine has increased overall quality and efficiency when it comes to the application of finish to veneers used in their interiors.
The machine itself can handle up to a 4’ x 12’ sheet of veneer and can make a single pass through it in less than one minute. Typically, each sheet gets between 7 to 10 passes through the machine depending on the desired finish.

While high gloss finishes are typical in today’s interior schemes, the state of the art machine can also accommodate matte finishes, stain and adhesive application.

The Interiors Team at the Chattanooga location indicate that the machine saves up to a week on veneer or finish projects on large aircraft. The downtime savings are substantial and the quality and consistency is second to none. The machine can be calibrated to specific thickness parameters so each sheet has the finish applied equally and consistently over every square inch of material. The new equipment also eliminates any human error that can typically be experienced with hand application or spraying. Additionally, there is no prep work in between coats, which further enhances the efficiency of the process.
