With nearly 100,000 inhabitants, Monastir has grown from a small fishing port to an important seaside resort on the central coast of Tunisia. This small historic town is located near Sousse, another better-known seaside resort, and more than 160km south of Tunis, the capital. Birthplace of former president Habib Bourguiba, this city has a special aura in the country.
