Curonian Spit in 2000 included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The northern side of the spit belongs to the Republic of Lithuania (the northern edge is to Klaipėda city, and the rest is to Neringa city municipalities). The other part, which includes Pilkopa, Rasytė, Šarkuva and some other smaller settlements, belongs to the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. The only road on the peninsula along the Spit is 167 Smiltyne – Nida.ve
