He is a walking history of modern comedy, from The Mary Tyler Moore Show to Taxi to The Simpsons and his films like Broadcast News, As Good As It Gets, and Terms of Endearment. There are almost no other comedy writers (and producer/directors) who have influenced so many generations of Americans. Mr. Brooks spoke to David Poland about himself, his new movie, and a bit of his lifetime of work.
