The Israeli army released on Sunday (December 17) a video it says shows Mohammed Sinwar, the brother of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, travelling in a car through a tunnel near the Erez crossing in Gaza.
Israeli forces battling Hamas said they had uncovered an unusually large concrete and iron-girded tunnel, designed to carry carloads of militant fighters from Gaza right up to the border.
Showing the tunnel to media, Chief military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, described it as "Sinwar's secret" and said millions of dollars had been put into the project.
He also showed video of Mohammed Sinwar sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle that he said was driving inside the tunnel. Reuters could not independently verify the identity of the passenger, the location or the date when the video was filmed.
