Hello everyone.
Today i’d like to talk to you about Bigscreen and their new ground breaking VR headset which is set to be the smallest VR headset in the world when it’s released later this year.
So what is Bigscreen?
Bigscreen is a desktop app that lets you and friends watch movies, tv programs, play games together and much more in virtual reality.
Most of you may have, at some point, experienced virtual reality.
It’s actually been around for decades. First played around with in the 60’s believe it or not to later becoming popular and practical in the 80’s and 90’s.
VR today however is pretty good. It’s come a long way, especially in the last decade. Where VR is today reminds me of where the world was when the first apple iPhone came out. It’s at a place where it’s finally getting interesting and big companies are piling millions of dollars into research and development.
One such company is Bigscreen.
Their virtual reality app works with all the main VR headsets like HTC Vive, Vive Pro, Oculus Quest 2, Oculus Rift S, Valve Index, Steam VR and Windows M R.
A huge benefit to this is that if your friends have a different VR headset to you, it doesn’t matter. You can all join together in their virtual reality.
The main feature of Bigscreen is that it brings the cinema to your house. Literally. You and your friends can watch movies as well as 3D movies on a 100 foot screen without having to leave your living room.
This is amazing because it also has far reaching benefits for so many people. Like disabled people who struggle or can’t even go to the cinema.
Or if you don’t have thousands to spend on a home cinema you can now simply put a VR headset on and select one of several virtual cinemas. Ranging from a modern looking cinema to a drive through cinema. Even a space cinema.
The viewing experience you get with Bigscreen is amazing and highly immersive. Thanks to the colour cast, it will project the light from the screen onto the surroundings just like it would in real life which completely changes the environment giving it that realistic feel.
But that’s not all you can do with Bigscreen. They also have over 20 unique environments for you to hang out in. Or even work in.
In these rooms you can share your desktop to showcase your work to your boss or colleague.
Host meetings or share ideas.
You don’t even have to be in the same country.
Communications company Ericsson actually bought loads of their employees a VR headset so they could work from home during the Covid pandemic. Just one example of how VR is changing our world today.
There’s also a virtual living room where you can chill out and watch TV with friends.
Another feature with Bigscreen is that it’s not just limited to you and friends. These rooms can also be public rooms which means you can make new friends or watch movies with strangers. Just like a real cinema but with the added benefit of muting the other people if they get too loud. Something you can’t do in a real cinema. Unfortunately.
Bigscreen also host live events and have a calendar available to the public to let you know what’s on. Now you can watch things like SpaceX rocket launches with friends or other people.
There’s also a classroom.
This could benefit kids who may be off school because they are sick. A teacher could either record a lesson and upload it or they could host a lesson live to a child or group of children who aren’t able to make it to school.
A possibility with this is that one day children from impoverished countries could get access to high quality education from richer countries. That would be amazing. Granted, prices would need to drop but i think it’s safe to say that they will which is always the case as new technology becomes more available.
So that’s a brief look into what Bigscreen is. Now lets take a look at their soon to be released VR headset which is causing quite a commotion online today.
Their new headset which is called, Beyond, will be the worlds smallest VR headset.
Weighing just 127 grams the Beyond is about 6 times lighter than most other headsets.
Ultra high resolution OLED micro displays produce amazing colours, deep blacks and razor sharp clarity coupled with advanced pancake optics with SteamVR tracking and full SteamVR support.
13.1 million pixels packed inside 2, 1 inch OLED displays.
Each pixel is 7 times thinner than a human hair.
No more “screen door” effect. No more motion blur or dull colours like with older LCD based headsets.
