I remember the first time I watched Ancient Aliens on the History Channel in 2009. It blew my mind. I have always questioned things, and never really believed in what I was told. I was the perfect target market for such a show. I loved the idea of alternative history, exploring, and questioning things. I am sure this show influenced my current lifestyle and love of history.
That’s why I decided to visit the Sacred Valley, the heart of the Inca Empire. My awesome Airbnb host, who ran a historic Inca house in Ollantaytambo, gave me a free tour of the mythical Ñaupa Iglesia on my last day in the Valley. The whole trip was planned for me to dive into the ancient stories of the Inca, the ungodly monuments of Sacsayhuaman, Machu Picchu, and hundreds of other historic spots.
Before Ñaupa Iglesia, I had seen some amazing sites, but nothing that really confirmed my ancient alien theories. But this sacred cave, that was sacred even before the Inca, and my awesome Airbnb host, gave me what I was craving.
On the Inca new year, when the sun hit just right, a pure man and woman would stand on each side of a designated ‘traveler’. As soon as the sun hit, the ritual began, and the special traveler would transport to the nearby portal. Nobody could give me a legit answer to where he went, but by all accounts, it was not of this world.
I have learned after traveling the world, that most of what I was taught in school about history, culture, and life was pretty much bullshit. Keep your mind open, we have zero idea what is really going on.
***Ñaupa Iglesia is one of the most mysterious Inca constructions in the Sacred Valley. It is known for being a place where religious ceremonies of Inca origin are performed (like the famous ‘payment to the earth’). It was a sacred huaca, where a kind of portal was finely carved.***
