presents episode 1702 | DR BEN BIKMAN
Digesting fat...moves into lymph first; then into blood
-to interact with cells and get stored
-moves in blood stream in chylomicron as triglycerides
-some tissues will pull fat from chylomicron, then
-it is taken by liver and dealt with
Liver will store some, release some
as VLDL
-VLDL, another carrier, of different
fats and proteins
Fat cells will store fat from triglycerides in lipoproteins
[VLDL & LDL]--as these float past fat cell,
-enzyme [lipoprotein lipase] will pull fat from carrier
[Where: Have lipoprotein lipase is Where you Store Fat]
"You don't store fat everywhere on body—ONLY
where you have lipoprotein lipase”
In addition to fat contributing to fat storage is:
Glucose...FAT CELL EASILY CONVERTS INTO FAT
Insulin is essential to allow fat cell to store more fat
-evidence in lab, fat cells in dish, need insulin to grow
-body is same: if T1D skips insulin, NO FAT STORAGE:
-no lipogenesis [new fat creation]
-lipolysis continues [fat breakdown]
