Many a card game believes themselves to be on the cusp of greatness when they put on their big-boy pants and announce that they are rotating out their base set, only to be shocked and astonished that, when they eliminated their base set, they eliminated their player base, as well.
Set Rotation is one of the most phenomenally misunderstood concepts in TCG design, a monetization scheme normalized by time and perhaps an outdated gimmick. Perhaps, unless you understand how the games most famous for rotation tend to operate, as well as the games that don't.
