Baz Luhrmann directed, produced, and co-wrote the 1996 romantic crime movie Romeo + Juliet (commonly abbreviated Romeo + Juliet). Although it still uses Shakespearean English, it is a modernized version of the same-named tragedy by William Shakespeare. The movie's lead actors, Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, play two teens who fall in love despite coming from rival families. In supporting roles, the actors Brian Dennehy, John Leguizamo, Harold Perrineau, Pete Postlethwaite, Paul Sorvino, and Diane Venora all shine. It is the third significant cinematic adaptation of the play, after adaptations by Franco Zeffirelli in 1968 and George Cukor in 1936.
