A fellow 14” MacBook Pro M1 Max owner with 32-core GPU wanted to know how the GPU frequencies varied on the 24-core GPU version that I own. I hope that this video is also useful for the rest of you that are researching a possible purchase of a 14” MacBook Pro M1 Max with the 24-core GPU.
Testing the GPU utilization and frequency changes while benchmarking Shadow of the Tomb Raider on a 14” MacBook Pro M1 Max with the 24-core GPU, 64GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. The performance of the benchmark increases towards the end, showing that thermals are not the cause for the variation in GPU clock speed/frequencies.
What do you think may be behind the reason that the benchmark drops from 1300MHz to 1100MHz during the benchmarks, especially as ~1300MHz is reached at the start regardless of fan speeds? Leave your comments below.
