The water tower was built between the years 1904 and 1907. On the tower there is a (now rather blurry) text that reads "Jacob von Leesen's generosity founded Norrköping's water supply." The tower is 45 meters high and was designed by Verner Northun.
The water tower was taken out of service in 1980, when Norrköping's new water tower located in Kättsätter was completed. Between the years 1999 and 2001, the real estate company HSB rebuilt the tower into student apartments in 13 floors. It was the company's first own construction project. The tower houses 62 apartments for students at Linköping University Campus Norrköping and a student pub on the ground floor.
