"Moments before the start of rehearsal last Thursday, we were made aware that the likelihood of finishing out our season was highly unlikely. We decided to rehearse as much of the repertoire in our folder as possible and make a video-recording of each piece as a record of the progress we had made so far in anticipation of our concert this April. Storm Comin' (arr. Alison Girvan) has been one of our favourites. Stay tuned for more musical moments..."
"When that storm comes, don't run for cover,
Don't run from the coming storm, no there ain't no use in running.
When that rain falls, let it wash away,
Let it wash away, that falling rain, the tears and the troubles.
When those lights flash, and you hear that thunder roar,
Will you listen to that thunder roar and let your spirits soar.
When that love calls, open up your door, you gotta let love through your door..."
The Womens Choir is singing under the direction of Dr. Rachel Rensink-Hoff.
The Chair of the Department of Music, Dr. Matthew Royal, remarked that "....the women’s choir is very much about community outreach. As the camera makes its circuit, you seen both community members and students mixed together in this ensemble, and a concomitant range of ages, too. Also, you’ll note how this rehearsal is a holistic experience, with not only singing but also movement choreographed in. Particularly apposite is the hand-washing motions (although the words of the song about the coming storm are actually contrary to social distancing)."
We look forward to singing for you again!
