Why did Jesus break tax laws by refusing to pay his taxes?
When Jesus and his disciples arrived at Capernaum, the temple tax collectors approached Peter and asked why Jesus didn't pay his taxes like others.
Peter met Jesus, and seeing the situation, Jesus claimed that the children of Kings did not pay their taxes, declaring that taxes were for others to pay.
To avoid an offense with the tax collectors, Jesus commanded Peter to go to the lake and throw out his line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth, and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.
