In 401 the first cathedral was consecrated by bishop St. Nicaise to the Virgin Mary, Christ’s Mother
In 407 St Nicaise received martyrdom on the threshold of the cathedral
In 496 (498) at Christmas Clovis was baptised by St Remi
In 852 a new cathedral was consecrated by bishop Hincmar, built on the same site
1210 fire destroyed the city
1211, the new cathedral started construction
1226 King Louis IX (St Louis) was crowned
1429 King Charles VII was crowned in the presence of Joan of Arc
1475 the towers were completed
1825 King Charles X was the last king of France to be crowned in Reims
1914 during WW1 was bombed and burnt
1937 after 20 years of restoration reopened and consecrated
1962 Charles de Gaulle and Adenauer celebrated Franco-German reconciliation
1996 Pope John-Paul II visited the cathedral to celebrate 1500 years of Clovis baptisation by St Remi
