There is an exhibit in the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park Visitor Center in Felton, California called "A Fish Tale," a fresh-water aquarium display that shows the development of steelhead trout from fertilized eggs to young steelhead (fry stage). In the spring, visitors can watch fertilized eggs hatch and the development of the young fish. Later they are able to take part in a fish release into the nearby San Lorenzo River.
For the rest of the year this video plays as a loop on a TV screen in the display where the aquarium was. The video was designed to have only short written titles and water sounds so that it blends in with the other recorded sounds of the surrounding Riparian habitat displays.
This project was done in co-operation with the Monterey Bay Salmon Trout Project, the Salmon and Trout Education Program (STEP), Calif. Fish and Game, Calif. State Parks, and the Santa Cruz Mountain Parks Foundation. It features Richard Tejeda, State Parks Interpreter, in the fish release scenes and Terry Umstead (teacher) and Joey Forsmer (student) from the San Lorenzo Valley School District Watershed Academy in the trapping and monitoring shots.
