India has extended its nationwide lockdown to May 3. On March 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered the world's largest lockdown with just four hours' notice. The unprecedented shutdown shuttered businesses, putting millions of informal workers out of work. With no money, migrant labourers left the major cities and returned to rural villages, parking the greatest exodus in India since the 1947 partition. Critics have also slammed the government's first stimulus package worth $22 billion, which is about 1% of India's GDP.
