If there is one thing that can really stop a good painting from becoming a terrific painting, is the lack of colour values.

By this I mean that all the colours appear to be of the same intensity and there is little contrast. I see this often in my teaching, and believe me when the adjustment is made it really brings a painting to life. Don't be afraid of painting with stronger colours
