AMX-30 used to be the best main battle tank of the French Army in the period 1960-1980. About 2,800 AMX-30 tanks were built between 1966 and 1993. These tanks are still widely used in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela. The AMX-30 was designed to focus on firepower and mobility instead of armor, making it the most poorly protected main battle tank ever built.
