5 Facts about the Statue of Zeus at Olympia

Even though everyone has heard of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, only few of them can be named. In his essay "On the Seven Wonders," Philo of Byzantium created the first list of historic wonders.

In addition to the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, this list also contains the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, and the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. Except for the Great Pyramid of Giza, all of these ancient wonders are sadly no longer standing.
