This week's board game gem is Manoeuvre, a light wargame from 2008 from Jeff Horger and GMT. A chess-like presentation — 8x8 grid, with same-sized armies starting at opposite sides — belies a card-driven wargame, with lots of opportunity for tense situations and clever play. It's easy to learn, setup and game lengths are super-quick, and has a huge amount of variety in the box with the eight different armies and thirty-two map tiles. For non-wargamers looking to dip their toes into that side of the hobby, it's a great starting point — one you may feel no need to leave!
(I missed an opportunity for a joke. Based on the English pronunciation of "hors d'oeuvre", I should have called it "Manerv" the whole time. Quel regret!)

Board Gems is a weekly video series highlighting board games that aren't talked about much any more — maybe they're a bit old (though not usually crazy old), or maybe they didn't make a big splash when they came out — but are still great games today, and deserve to not be forgotten!
