The game story-line:-
Linear path to start, and you'll soon encounter some human enemies. They're pushovers, though the melee one hits awfully fast. Just triple-team the enemies one at a time, and you'll have no problems. Just remember that if the dual-wielding swordsmen start to combo you, quickly throw up a block, and you'll stagger them. That will make them vulnerable for a counterattack at best, or at least some room to retreat and reorganize at worst.
Continue up the hill from under the bridge. The path remains linear, and soon you'll circle back around to the bridge itself. Enemies will pour out of the far side, and you're in for an extended fight. It's all Uruk-hai and archers, so take it one Uruk-hai at a time, the closest one first. Retreat if necessary if you get overwhelmed because as always, the archers are slow to follow. Concentrate all your power on the Uruk-hai, and you'll be fine.
As soon as you hit the next checkpoint, do not move forward. You're walking into an absolutely terrible ambush: enemies will approach from both sides, and you can't retreat because you had to jump off a little cliff to get here. However, the act of activating the checkpoint summons the archers, but no other enemies. So, activate the checkpoint, but stay standing on your little cliff, and you'll be able to kill the archers without any interference from the stronger enemies.
One more attack as you come back out to the open. It's a gauntlet, but a shorter one than the first bridge you had in this area. Standard tactics apply and don't worry about the archers until everyone else is dead. Before hitting the checkpoint, return to the bridge, as you can jump off it to the right side ("right" from the direction of when you entered this area) and land on a small ledge. Follow it back around to get a ranger's drop and a gilded chest before continuing.
When you start this fight, the first thing he does is throws up a barrier and starts launching red fireballs, similar to when you had to fight Wulfrun in The Shadowed Paths. Just roll to avoid his three waves of triple fireballs, then shoot him with whatever you've got.
After that, things get really sticky. He'll start teleporting around, and his staff is a threat, so unless you're Farin, you need to keep hitting him from a distance. However, the problem is that he'll start bringing in all sorts of help, all the different enemies you faced coming here in the first place. A couple archers may appear on the ground, but they'll mostly stay on the rocks and shoot you from on high. The Uruk-hai, human dual-wielding warriors, and human mages however will swarm you and make things immensely complicated.
You need to shift your thinking away from all your standard tactics here in order to handle this boss. Your first priority is to ironically ignore him entirely, and keep a tight rein on your AI-controlled teammates so they do the same. Yes, he's strong, and you need to roll away from his attacks, but if you attack him, all his little friends will shred you. You need to roll toward the enemies and take them out one by one, starting with the weakest. That means prioritizing mages, then archers who are on the ground, then the human warriors, and then the Uruk-hai. Numbers are worse than strength right now, and you need to keep the enemy numbers as thin as possible.
Minions are summoned three times, so be ready and stay healthy with potions. Always be moving, unless you need to remain in Andriel's Sanctuary. Keep the enemy guessing, and don't allow them to get too much of an aim on you. And now is the time to let loose those Great Feathers: do not be conservative, call in Beleram any time there is an Uruk-hai on the field that you can't immediately triple-team. Keep the enemy's numbers thin, and you'll be all right.
After the Carn Dun Captain is dead, loot the area (including getting his scroll for the Cult of the Lidless Eye side quest), and then move on.
