If you like long-form content like this and/or interested in what activating Windows XP is like over the telephone service in 2023, then this video is for you!
This video shows me activating Windows XP Home Edition via the telephone service in 2023. For those of you who don’t know, Windows XP was the first version of Windows to use product activation and featured two ways to activate, such as using the online service or the telephone service. As the activation servers for Windows XP have long been taken down at this point, the online service is nonfunctional. As such, the telephone service is the only way for the operating system to be activated this way. Here I recorded myself doing the whole process in real-time, with some cuts. This is being done on real, era-appropriate hardware, with my Compaq Presario 7000 computer.
The idea for this video came about when I was recording the Compaq Presario 7000 Windows XP Home startup video, where it reminded me that Windows has to be activated before I can log in. So here it is. Enjoy this long-form video!
Note: For those of you wondering about some of the old icons used in this OS install as well as the “Windows 2002” branding, I've used Inexperience Patcher for that. Refer to Michael MJD's video about it. Also, I've used classic Windows sounds from Windows 2000 to help with that Windows 2000-esque look and feel.
