By Carla Roberts(KUTV) You now have an excuse to go fishing or golfing. Well, if you were looking for an excuse, we have one for you. Research shows that these outdoor activities, among others, are good for your physical and mental well-being. We found that people, who spent more time outside, tend to have improved mood and improved self-esteem. Kary Woodruff is a sports dietician at The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Murray. She says everyone should try to check out every once in a while. Checking out includes turning off phones and other electronic devices. Getting some time away from the screen and being more present and not having all of these different stimuli that are distracting us can be very beneficial for the mind so that we can relax, said Woodruff.Kary says focusing on your back swing, or the things you really enjoy, benefits both you and your family. When families spend more time outside together versus being inside and being distracted by electronics and other activities, families tend to connect better and have healthy relationships.Standing in the sunshine also has some benefits. Even some exposure to natural light, we see improved rates in healing and decreased ratings of pain. However, dont forget to put on some sunscreen if you plan on enjoying the sunshine for long periods of time.
