THE FATE OF BLACK PEOPLE IN RUSSIA
Imagine a big country like Russia with 144 million people and just 70,000 black people. In this land where snowflakes frequently outnumber people, being black is like being the only color in a sea of white. Unlike the USA, France, Portugal, Spain, and Germany, the history of Black people in Russia is not your standard narrative of enslavement and colonization. Forced migration or enslavement did not provide Russia with the necessary amount of diversity. And this is where the story gets more complicated. You might question if being black in Russia is like carrying a double-edged sword—would my skin tone get me special attention, or will I just be accepted for who I am as a person?
