The v2.0 of Rage Rebalance mod by id.Dav comes with an updated version of the map that was reviewed here previously. Now, let's finally have a look at it in this long-awaited playthrough.

Play for the first time, with health regeneration because for me the game becomes too protracted and tedious without it.

It looks like the map is thought out well, and the author kept in mind the shape of building we entered in to create realistic interior.

This time we actually get a quest when we approach the building where the new map takes place. It's a welcome change that will surely make it easier for new players to find the mission. New loading screen is also welcome, it makes the level look more professional.

Overall it's mostly the same map, just improved texturing here and there. For example, textures on table legs at 3:40 are no longer stretched and texture detail increased:

Not all texturing issues are fixed though. The memorable corridor with orange walls which I enter at 12:21 still has squashed textures. What's wrong? Is RageRadiant from IdStudio so limited that it's not possible to align textures sometimes?! Or the stamping system has limited abilities of aligning decals?

Screenshots promise that new areas will look awesome. And this promise doesn't lie. They are rich in detail and decal stamps. It is fun to explore them. I even returned to one of them once more after completing the map (44:07).

First new area starts at 6:39. The amount of turns makes it feel mazelike at first, but don't be scared, it's just an optional linear route with few dead ends.

That hole in the ceiling at 9:39 looks dated because it's faceted. It's like how in old games of late 90s they made faceted pipes because PCs couldn't handle high polycount back then. Some visual cues which would explain that Wellspring builders intended it to be this way may help improve the impression.

Saying no to ambient music in favor of well placed sounds is a very good idea - it makes the experience more realistic, unlike id's maps where you'd hear repetitive soundscapes if you turn off the music.

Realistic mud at 25:41 is another good idea which adds more variety to the place.

Another new area is at 32:25. Difficulty of boss fight that starts at 27:51 is increased in order to give incentive to climb there and cheat the victory from enemies.

Since this is the same map as Wellspring Underground just with more areas to explore, my original review ([ Ссылка ]) is still true - see it for more information. The new areas are really well made and improve the quality of the map, at the same time there are no changes that would break or spoil something from the previous version. This makes Wellspring Underground Extended the ultimate edition that should be played, and there's no need to look any further unless the author releases newer version.
