Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrase HIT THE SACK and TO HIT THE HAY
Today, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase, hit the sack. I'll give you a few examples in the past and in the future. The phrase hit the sack in English means to go to bed, to go to sleep. When you are tired, you can say to someone, "I'm really tired. "I think I'm going to hit the sack." If you said that a little quicker, though, you'd say, "Yeah, I'm really tired. "I think I'm gonna hit the sack." That's full-speed Bob the Canadian talking, by the way. So when you say to someone that you're going to hit the sack it means that you're going to go to bed. In the past tense, you would say things like, "Last night, I hit the sack at nine p.m.," and that would mean that last night, you went to bed at nine p.m. And in the future, of course, you could say, "Tonight I will hit the sack at nine p.m.," or, "Tonight I am going to hit the sack at nine p.m.," although that would be pretty early, wouldn't it? And this is a pretty common phrase. I just used it last night. That's why I'm teaching it today. Last night, I said to Jen, "Oh, I'm tired. "I think I'm gonna hit the sack pretty soon." So it means to go to bed.
And if you watched my video on my bigger channel today, you already know that hit the hay means. It means to go to bed as well, to go to sleep. So when you are tired, you could say to someone, "Wow, I'm really tired. "I think I'm going to hit the sack," and you could also say, "I think I'm going to hit the hay." They mean exactly the same thing. I don't know why we don't just say, "I'm going to go to bed now." I don't know why, in English, we have so many different ways to say things. I guess it simply makes the language more enjoyable to talk, to speak, and it makes the language just a little more complex. Sorry, it makes it harder to learn, as well. But anyways, Bob the Canadian here. You're learning English with me. Hope you're having a good day, and I'll see you in a couple days with another short English lesson.
