Here’s my take on this post from the church after going through so many of the 12,000 comments. I think we may be talking past each other in a pretty big way that is hindering our ability to effectively dialogue about women and priesthood. The church made this post quoting from the Worldwide Relief Society Devotional, where Sister Anette Dennis, the first counselor in the Relief Society Presidency, spoke about women and priesthood power.

She said, "There is no other religious organization in the world that I know of that has so broadly given power and authority to women."

The responses have ranged from positive to negative, with a lot of emotion on both poles.

She's making a very specific claim that I felt came across clearly in the context of her full talk and I think a lot of people might be missing that context in their impulse to be reactive. And certainly this is a sensitive topic for a lot of members so it can be easy to want to respond and react in combative ways, but I’m inclined to let this woman’s full voice be heard, not just the social media soundbite.
