“Hold His Hand” is a song that embodies my family’s journey through addiction. It’s a story that resonates deeply for me. Six years ago, my brother’s battle with addiction tore our family apart and eventually landed him in prison. When we wrote this song, his absence left my nephew Troy, the feature on this track, with anger, sadness, and a longing to move forward.
Around two years ago, my brother resurfaced in our lives, sober and seeking reconciliation. His return brought a mix of emotions for me —hope for a fresh start and fear of relapse. My nephew Troy has enjoyed an opportunity that children of addicts do not always get to have: the chance to know his dad again. The “Hold His Hand” music video is a small glimpse into the intimate moments of Troy’s struggle. The moments his dad missed.
I’ve always used music to navigate my life’s challenges, and this video is a part of that process. We have a long road ahead, but I’m very grateful to have my brother back in my life, as I know many families affected by addiction don’t get that chance. Here’s to hope for a future filled with love, understanding, and possibility. Thank you for taking this ride with me.
