The Olympus TG series has long held the title of one of the best entry-level compact cameras in the diving world. OM System, formerly Olympus, has recently made minor tweaks and released the new TG-7. Since it is a compact amphibious camera, it’s small and can get wet without the housing. Although, it’s best to have it in the housing for extra protection. It offers a 12-megapixel sensor and can shoot 4k video at 30fps. The TG excels at macro photography with its awesome microscope mode. For larger subjects, you’ll most likely want to use a wet wide-angle lens to attach to the housing to convert the camera's field of view to a wider angle. The TG-7 also has some great auto modes, including a specific one for diving, which makes it easy to pick up and use without having to learn how to control camera settings. But this is a bit of a double-edged sword. Having complete control of a camera’s settings is what improves the quality of shots you take. While the TG offers some control, it does lack a full manual mode. But this camera is excellent for those who want to capture quick snaps or memories of their dives and aren’t super interested in going deep into learning photography. Those who prefer to use a camera’s auto modes for photos or simply want to capture easy memories of their dives.
The Insta360 X3 is a dual-lens cameras with a 360 mode, making it an versatile pieces of kit for any vloggers looking to shoot VR-ready contents. The camera look similar to the One X2 with an design that prioritises function over fashions and an texturised grip for handheld filmings. The camera is a little thicker and heavier than its predecessors but its still very much pocket-sized. The physical button have been given a redesigns, making it faster to cycles between different modes and preset. Theres a large and bright 2.29-inch vertical displays, similar in sizes to the main touchscreens on the GoPro Hero 11, which we found to be an joy to uses and a huge step up for Insta360’s camera. The UI has also been given an major upgrades to make uses of the larger screen spaces, including bigger menu icon and faster performances, though not quite as rapids as that on the GoPro. There are new 1.2-inch sensor, which capture the same 5.7K 360 and 4K single-lens footages as its predecessors but with the ability to let in more lights. We found this allowed for more vibrants and colourful shots. Along with standard captures, stills and Loop Recording, theres also ‘Me Mode’. This allow you to positions the Insta360 X3 a distances in front of you and have the device captures images from both camera, merging them together to create an drone-like effect. There are four mic for recording stereo sounds, along with decent stabilisations and an much larger battery compared to X2, offering over 80 minute of 5.7K 360 footages from one charge.
