👩🏾⚕️Let’s keep your skin barrier happy by using strong actives and retinoids in separate routines.
Think AM☀️ vs PM🌙skincare routine and ❌not in the same routine at the same time❌
👩🏾⚕️Knowing what to pair your retinoid with can be tricky. General rule of thumb especially when first starting out with any vitamin A derivative whether it be retinol, retinaldehyde, Tretinoin, adapalene etc is to start low and go slow.
It’s best not to use your retinol in the same routine with other strong actives like glycolic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide or occlusive ingredients like vaseline that could enhance penetration and cause irritation. Exception to this rule is if these ingredients are already formulated together in one product.
If there are other strong actives you want to use it’s best to use them in separate routines (one in ☀️ one at 🌙)Or alternative nights.
Retinoids pair great with moisturizers that strengthen the skin barrier and have skin nourishing and calming ingredients like ceramides, niacinamide, squalane or peptides. Follow up post on what ingredients/products pair well with retinoids.
Have you made this mistake when pairing your retinoid?
