MacBook Pro Retina 13-inch Early 2015 Core i5 2.7 GHz. Clean install of macOS Big Sur on a separate partition. No auto-start apps. Sierra boots up 3 times faster.
Boot-up time macOS Sierra (version 10.12.6): 8.5 seconds
Boot-up time macOS Big Sur (version 11.4): 26.7 seconds
00:00 Sierra boot-up time
00:16 Big Sur boot-up time
So a 5 years old system boots up more than 3 times faster than macOS Sierra in a modern Retina intel MacBook Pro.
Also, after installing Big Sur the Apple startup-chime got fucked up and sounds terribly distorted. No way to revert it to the original one, which is quite frustrating.
What's up Apple? Big Apple fans here normally owning tons of Apple hardware, but this is really quite disappointing. Big Sur also is much slower than Sierra once booted. It is somehow lagging compared to Sierra.
Big Sur might work well on M1 machines, but on intel machines its a step or even two steps backwards. So we're using an older system again for daily business, and since Safari can't be updated in older Systems we're using Google Chrome instead, which works perfectly fine and is being updated by Google not only for the newest macOS systems.
