Now, consider how it would feel to never communicate with that person again—imagine that scenario and allow yourself to sit with that feeling.
Chances are, you are experiencing a mix of emotions right now: relief, fear, sadness, confusion, guilt, and perhaps even a sense of freedom. This complex blend of feelings captures the essence of why the "no contact" strategy can be so challenging to implement. Let’s take a moment to discuss what "no contact" really means and why it is such a significant topic when it comes to understanding narcissistic and toxic relationships.
In its simplest form, "no contact" means exactly what it suggests: it involves having no communication with the narcissistic individual. This means not reaching out to them and, more importantly, not responding to any of their attempts to communicate with you. I want to be honest with you: the "no contact" approach is effective. The reason for its effectiveness lies in the nature of narcissistic relationships, which typically do not change over time. In our current age of technology, however, it has become somewhat easier to implement "no contact." We can block phone numbers, emails, and other forms of communication. We can also block social media accounts, which helps to create a necessary distance.
