This week on Our Off-Grid House Build we work together as a family to install the final Floor Beams for our Pier and Beam foundation! The whole family, including the ducks and chickens, pitched in to cleanup the house site before starting the final row of piers and we celebrated at night with a huge bonfire to say goodbye to the last of the concrete sonotube forms.
The house will be 54 feet long, and it was a huge milestone when we finished the final row of foundation floor beams and were able to walk the entire distance of the house from end to end.
Installing the final row of floor beams went rather smoothly as we had learned many hard lessons from the first two rows. The trusty Kubota L47 pulled its weight and didn't let us down, and I finally figured out how to drill holes without getting the bit stuck..
It is amazing to watch the pier and beam foundation come to life, built from the ground up with our own blood, sweat and tears.
Next up, we have a couple things left to completely finish the foundation. The beams need to be coated with preservative wherever we cut into them with the chainsaw or the drill, and we need to bolt the beams to the concrete piers with the anchor bolts.
We ran into an issue where Justin didn't have the right size socket for the bolts so that will have to be done next week.
