Woman Cuts Up Her Iranian Identity Card During Protest
A woman cut up her Iranian identity card on the steps of the Vancouver art gallery on Sunday, September 25, in protest against the Iranian government following the death of Mahsa Amini.
Footage by Vancouver-based photographer Shaghayegh Moradiannejad shows the woman taking a scissors to her ID card and hair to cheers from the crowd. The footage also shows a cameraman shaving his head in solidarity.
Thousands of protesters turned out in Vancouver on Sunday, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced sanctions in response to nationwide protests across Iran sparked by 22-year-old Amini’s death in police custody.
