Paddling open Kootenay lake with wind, waves, and visiting Next, TYE, and Midge recreation areas. This day I paddle from the railroad bridge at the south entrance of Kootenay lake to Midge Creek recreation area. This is day 19 of my 21 day Solo Kayak Expedition from Canal Flats to Nelson BC paddling the Kootenay (i) river. I hate to leave my camp on the south end of the lake, camping on a comfortable abandoned dock but adventure calls. The day starts out calm and hazy but the wind soon picks up. The surrounding hills fall straight into the water and there are few places to get out in case of trouble with wind. I stop at NEXT creek recreation area for a rest and explore the site. From here there are allot of head lands that present a problem with refracting waves as the seas build. At the end of the day I arrive at Midge Creek which is completely deserted. I select the best camp and have a fire for the first time on the trip. Just a couple days left to the end of the trip.
