Here's the beginning-to-end process of a new silver & bronze mandala I've been painting. For this artwork, I decided to "square off" the circle, by creating intricate corners to cradle the circular design.

This idea of "squaring a circle" is a topic found in several parts of history and culture; throughout ancient texts, in geometry and poetry, the work of Carl Yung, Morrocon and Islamic tiling, and in the traditions of Buddhist sand paintings.
