When I first started I didn’t know how to plow a driveway, SO I decided to make this video for the 'ME" from 3 years ago!
Please know that all driveways will be different shape, size and each driveway will have its own set of rules for which you must abide and respect.
Now that we got that out of the way let's talk prep!
If a customer hires you its always best to meet. During this meeting you can introduce yourself, answer questions and mark out the property together.
If this doesn’t happen it's not the end of the world just use your head!!!!!!Since it prod. won't be marked out you should Try to shovel out the edges of the driveway first so you get a better “lay of the land”
Alright so know you're ready to plow.
My first tip is always having a game plan.
Here is a property I service.
Here is the property on a piece of paper.
On the paper I have sketched out how I’m going to plow this particular driveway.
Check it out!
Now here is a drawing for a basic driveway,
I have one plan of attack if the snow is light. VS. heavy
But you will notice that I always plow the apron of the driveway first. The apron of the driveway is where the bottom half of the driveway meets the public road.
I do this becauseI will get better traction.
There is usually lots of wet, heavy nasty stuff here left over from the city plows.
You will need to decide where you're going to put that snow.
Once that is done you can drive up the garage and back drag.
My plow has something that is called “d force” or DOWN FORCE.
D-Force improves scraping performance while back-dragging by maintaining a consistent hydraulic down force powered by a hydraulic accumulator. D-Force is an optional accessory on new truck plow purchases and must be added at the time of purchase. D-Force includes a D-Force specific plow box and controller.
Since my plow is specific for a half ton truck i.e. F150,1500 etc… These plows are lighter and something like D force helps tremendously when back dragging.
If you're looking to buy a plow, having one with DOWN-force would be something to consider while in your research phase.
