Bill Pinkney and his Original Drifters (Richard Knight Dunbar, Vernon Young, Chuck Cockerham, Greg Johnson, Charles Blackmon) perform the group's 1956 ballad, "Your Promise To Be Mine" for a P.O.R.C.C. audience in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 11, 1995. Richard Knight Dunbar is singing the lead vocal originally recorded by Gerhart Thrasher (1928-1977). “Your Promise To Be Mine” was written by the Drifters’ guitarist and arranger, Jimmy Oliver, in 1955, and issued as the B-side of their hit, “Ruby Baby”. Before joining the Original Drifters, Richard Knight Dunbar recorded and performed with the Starfires on Decca and Bargain Records, the Carltons on Argo Records, and the Knight Brothers on Mercury and Checker.
