The Brazilian national team will retain its top FIFA ranking after the 2022 World Cup. This was reported by ESPN GB.
It is noted that if Argentina or France had won the final in extra time, one of them would have come out on top, but the penalty shootout ensured that Brazil would not be overtaken. Argentina and France moved up one position to second and third place, respectively. Belgium dropped two spots to fourth place, while England remained in fifth place.
Morocco and Australia showed the biggest surge, up 11 positions. The Morocco team, which finished fourth at the 2022 World Cup, is now at No. 11 in the FIFA rankings, becoming the best African team. Australia, which reached the 1/8 finals, has risen to 27th place.
The official updated FIFA rankings are expected on Thursday, December 22.
