HD Enhanced Colorization Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit (Live 1959). This is an amazing and sad song by Billie Holiday. It was covered by many other singers, most notably, Nina Simone. “Strange Fruit” was a song addressing racism in America in the early 1900’s. Lynching is the specific topic being portrayed in this song with its lyrical imagery. The performance of this song was live in early 1959, a few months before Billie Holiday died of pulmonary edema and heart failure caused by cirrhosis of the liver. Her voice was very worn and so was her appearance in this video. Despite her body failing on her, Billie still sang a great interpretation of her hit song from 1939. I colorized this old clip and enhanced its quality. The audio needed some work, so I made it sound better also. Enjoy!
