In this video, I explain an extremely effective, and readily available mouth rinse requiring only two common household ingredients, warm water, and salt. Saltwater rinses date back thousands of years, yet miraculously continue to prove their value as a low-cost and extremely effective way to improve oral health and killing bacteria in the mouth. Do not swallow or drink this solution.

How does salt water mouth rinse work?
Salt water rinses leads to dehydration and death of bacteria which are known to cause cavities and periodontal disease.
How effective is it?
VERY! Studies comparing saturated saltwater rinses to other effective mouth rinses have found comparable results with a significant reduction of problem-causing bacteria.

What is the downside?
A lot of people don't enjoy the taste for regular use. Other people describe saltwater being acidic and damaging to the teeth, but this is untrue as it is a neutral solution or slightly basic. Your mouth will feel parched and dry after use, so this is usually enough to discourage frequent and regular use but this does not reduce the fact that it is extremely effective, natural, and cheap!
TIPS
A lot of people tell you to use 1/2 to 1 tsp of salt but this is wrong! You want to make a super-saturated solution for maximum benefits and results. Roughly speaking, this translates to 9 tsp of salt per 2/3 cup of water.
One of the most important things is to use warm water so that you can mix in more salt. This makes the solution stronger and more effective. What I recommend is to just mix-in as much salt as possible until you see that some salt is collecting at the bottom of your glass because it will no longer dissolve into the solution.
