In this video I show how to add fragrance oil and color dye to a candle made from Babybel cheese wax. This is a great way to turn that pile of scrap wax into a fun and inexpensive project.
***While researching one of my candle experiments I found out that the cheese wax I have been using is mainly paraffin-based wax. Unfortunately paraffin wax burns somewhat dirty and some studies show that the fumes may cause cancer... so I won't be making candles with this wax anymore. Instead I'll be using wax from my beehives. The information on how to make the candles is solid, but I can't recommend using this wax for this purpose anymore. I left these videos up for entertainment purposes and so that others who are contemplating doing this project will know the safety concerns.***
If you enjoy making candles from your scrap wax, this can be a fun way to give them a little more variety. We are limited with what colors we can alter the red wax as it can only be tinted so much. A tiny bit of blue dye is all that is needed to get the darker red color in the thumbnail. Less is more unless you want some Gothic style candles.
I attempted this with orange dye as well. It just came out looking like the regular red candle.
I used a Caribbean themed fragrance oil set. I love the Papaya and Pina Colada scents in this kit.
It takes roughly 15 empty Babybel cheese wax shells to make one of the larger sized candles depicted in this video.
