The Institute for Fiscal Studies has warned that 13 UK universities could go bust without financial help from the government. The IFS does not name the universities, but 13 UK institutions are at risk of going bust without a government bailout. They’ve said the higher ranking unis with large numbers of international students face the largest immediate drop in income, but the least prestigious universities are at the greatest risk.
The researchers' central estimate is an £11bn loss, amounting to a quarter of the sector's annual income.
