The Gosport Independent Panel has looked at the deaths of more than 830 people at Gosport War Memorial Hospital in Hampshire between 1988 and 2000. At the centre of the storm is Dr Jane Barton (left), who earned the nickname 'Dr Opiate' after being accused of prescribing fatal overdoses of opiate painkillers to elderly patients while she worked at the hospital. Several of those who died had been admitted to the hospital for what their relatives thought were simple, routine procedures. Among those who died at the hospital were (top row, left to right) Stan Carby, Arthur ‘Brian’ Cunningham and Gladys Richards and (bottom row, left to right) Elsie Devine, Robert Wilson and Jean Stevens.
