(15 Jan 2019) The president of Zimbabwe on Tuesday laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow, kicking off his visit to Russia.
Emmerson Mnangagwa hopes to secure long-term loans for his country, which is facing its worst economic crisis in a decade.
Mnangagwa was due to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin later on Tuesday amid turmoil in Zimbabwe caused by the severe economic downturn and protests against fuel hikes.
Before meeting Putin, Mnangagwa told the state-owned RIA Novosti news agency that he will ask for loans but he did not say how much his country wants to borrow.
He also said Zimbabwe would like to see Russian companies explore for gas and oil.
