Australian households have been buying fewer goods and services for more than year, but earlier-than-usual sales and discounts all over Australia did contribute to an increase in spending in May, especially on clothing and footwear.
The rise in spending might concern the Reserve Bank, as it continues to fight inflation.
The RBA will meet in August to decide whether to lift interest rates from 4.35 per cent.
