Professor Ron White and Associate Professor Shaun Belward explain how this subject exposes students to the essential elements of mathematics required for data scientists, and elements of discrete mathematics including logics, sets, proof, functions, relations, graphs and trees.
Elements of linear algebra, including linear systems and matrix formulation, vector spaces, eigenvalues/eigenvectors, singular value decomposition as well as optimisation and numerical methods will be explored. Computational aspects of this course will be developed in Mat Lab.
